Land Rover struggles to close factory

A Land Rover factory, yesterday

Last year Land Rover admitted it would probably have to shut down an assembly plant. Now the 4×4 maker has confessed that it has already made a failed attempt to close one of its factories.

‘We actually closed a factory last year,’ admitted an insider ‘But then, just as we were walking away from the factory we looked back and from that angle it didn’t seem to have closed properly. Just to be on the safe side, we went back and tried to close it again. Actually, that just made it worse. It felt like the factory had closed, but at the same time it seemed to be standing proud and refusing to close completely’.

Sources in Solihull say Land Rover was later forced to take the factory to a dealership where it was adjusted so that it should have been easier to close. ‘In fact, that only compounded the situation,’ admitted our mole. ‘Now the factory needed a lot more effort to close and, although it looked closed from the front, if you were standing at the back of the factory it very much looked like the factory was still a little bit open’.

Land Rover insiders admit they may have to leave the factory open, or at least looking like it’s slightly open. ‘We were thinking of trying to close the other factory instead and hope that doesn’t suffer from the same problem,’ said one senior manager. ‘But I’m told they all do that, sir’.
