Nissan has revealed a brand new family car that’s set to shake up the crowded crossover market.

Badged the Pulsar, the new model takes the basic concept of Nissan’s acclaimed Qashqai and gives it a radical, slightly lower twist. Instead of the high riding suspension and lofty driving position we have all become used to with our crossovers, the Pulsar boasts a chassis that is closer to the road and a seating position that puts the occupants eye-to-eye with drivers of more expensive cars such as the BMW 1-series or a second hand Mercedes E-class.

‘It’s an amazing development,’ notes industry analyst, Ian Dustry-Anelistt. ‘Nissan has really thought outside the box with this one and come up with a whole genre of car so fresh and new that it doesn’t even have a name yet. I would suggest ‘low crossover’ or perhaps, ‘hatch back’.’

Nissan’s segment busting is sure to cause headaches at rivals such as Volkswagen who are believed to be working on their own ‘low crossover’, rumoured to be called ‘the Golf’.
